A typical kitchen refurbishment.....

A kitchen refurbishment of this size, replacing the doors, drawer fronts, pelmets, cornice, plinth, end panels, etc, would normally take 2 days, plus an extra day if we are doing the worktops.
The kitchen before we start....
All the units are sound, so this kitchen refurbishment entails just
replacing everything that you can see - doors, drawers,
end panels, cornice, plinth, etc (and the worktops).
We're fitting "Beech Shaker Style" doors and drawers
with Omega "Etna Verde" worktops.
.
1. First task of the refurbishment is to remove the old doors and drawers 2. We fit new hinges where necessary. Normally we use the original locations to avoid drilling new holes in the carcass. .
3. We route the hinge holes in the doors 4. Fit the hinges to the doors .
5. We start to fit the doors 6. A row of doors is fitted... (we haven't yet fitted the handles - we usually do this last when all the doors and drawers are fitted) .
7. The only actual change we are
making during the refurbishment is to get rid of the open shelves in the middle of this run
of wall units.8. The new doors are all full
length and cover the shelves..
9. We remove the old drawers and begin
to fit the new ones10. Removing the old drawer fronts.
If the drawers are worn, we can replace
the internal drawer boxes (not necessary in
this case - the drawers were in good condition).
11. The handles are fitted. 12. Doors with handles fitted. .
13. We next move onto the
open ended shelf units
(see below, on right of both
wall and base units)14. We remove the old shelf units... ![]()
15. Then construct the
new units and fit them.

.
16. The area above the hob needs tidying... 17. So we fit a beech panel on
the underside (cutting it to fit
around the extractor), and brushed
stainless steel panels on the sides.
We regularly fit stainless panels
on the sides because they are not
affected by the heat rising from gas hobs..
18. End panels need to be removed.. 19. We trim a replacement so
that it fits perfectly...20. The new one in place. .
21. This wall unit is going to
have a Beech type end panel
fitted to match the new doors,
then we will fit the cornice
(cornice is the moulding
above the wall units).22. Using a mitre saw to cut
the cornice.
23. The wall unit with end
panel and cornice fitted..
24. Finally, we remove the old plinth
(the kick board at the base of the units)
and replace with new Beech type plinth.25. Then replace with Beech type plinth. .
The kitchen refurbishment finished....
